Free to Live Fearlessly
Bishop Eugene Reeves

There is a very good poem called “Freedom is Not Free” that highlights the great price that the men and women who serve in the armed forces have paid to secure and protect the freedom of the United States of America. It speaks of the many lives that have been lost and the effects that such tremendous loss has on the family members of those who have fallen. As a retired U.S. Army officer, I certainly understand firsthand the sacrifices that so many have made so that we can enjoy the civil liberties and opportunities that we have. So many lives lost, so many families separated for extended periods of time while their love ones serve; and even when the battles end, many of the soldiers who have returned home do so bearing the physical and emotional wounds and scars that freedom demands.

As I reflect on what it has cost for our nation to be free, I can’t help but remember the great sacrifice that Jesus made for all people, in all nations to be free. The price He paid cost Him everything and yet He was willing to give it all so that we might experience abundant life not only in this world but in the world to come. He purchased our ultimate and eternal freedom with His own blood. 1 Peter 1:18-19 states, “…you were not redeemed with corruptible things, like silver or gold,….but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot.” Not only did He secure our freedom but He also secured our faith.  Therefore, because of His great sacrifice we can live our lives FEARLESSLY knowing that our faith in Him will never fail.

Your freedom is not free and neither is your faith. Make sure that Jesus’ sacrifice for you was not in vain by living your life FEARLESSLY so that He might get the glory in all that you do!
